Connect ChatGPT
Add the Whippy MCP server to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server.
ChatGPT connects to custom MCP servers on the web. Full MCP support, including tools that change data, is available on ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu. Pro users can connect custom MCP servers for read and fetch actions only. Custom MCP connections are web-only.
Who can add a server depends on your workspace:
- Business: workspace admins and owners.
- Enterprise/Edu: admins and owners, plus members an admin has granted permission to create connections to custom MCP servers.
Add Whippy
- In ChatGPT on the web, go to Plugins.
- Select +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter Name
Whippyand, optionally, a description. - Under Connection, enter
https://api.whippy.co/mcp. - For authentication, choose OAuth. ChatGPT discovers Whippy's sign-in settings and registers itself, so don't enter a client ID, client secret, or API key.
- Review the risk warning and check I understand and want to continue.
- Select Create as a plugin. ChatGPT opens the Whippy sign-in page. Sign in, choose your workspace, and approve.
- Review the discovered tools.
Publish for your workspace (admins)
A new server starts as a draft that only you can use. To make it available to your workspace:
- Open the Admin Console and select your ChatGPT workspace.
- Open Plugins → Manage Legacy Apps → Drafts.
- Select Publish and review the warnings for write actions. On Enterprise/Edu you can also choose which actions are allowed (Configure Actions) and who has access (Configure Access).
Each person who uses the plugin signs in with their own Whippy account.
Use it
Start a new chat, type @, select Whippy, and ask:
@Whippy how many contacts did we add this week, and which channels did they come in on?
App selection applies to one message. Mention @Whippy again when a follow-up needs fresh Whippy data.
Things to know
- Tool list snapshot. ChatGPT freezes the tool list when an admin approves the server. When Whippy adds tools, an admin has to refresh the tool list in workspace settings before they appear.
- Sign-in renewal. ChatGPT notes that Whippy doesn't advertise an
offline_accessscope. Whippy issues refresh tokens anyway, so you shouldn't need to sign in again often. If ChatGPT does lose access, reconnect the plugin. - Many tools. If the tool scan is slow or ChatGPT warns about the number of tools, see Tool limits.
Disconnect
Remove the plugin in ChatGPT, then disconnect ChatGPT in Whippy under Connected apps.
