Use apps in workflows
Add a Workflow App as a trigger or action step, pick a connection, and map fields.
Once an app is connected under Auth, you can add it as a step on any workflow canvas.
Add an app as a trigger
Use an app trigger when the other product should start the workflow (new row, new message, form submitted, and so on).
- Open a workflow in the workflow builder, or create one.
- On the empty trigger slot, choose Add step (or the equivalent control for your canvas).
- Pick the app from the apps catalog. Only apps that expose triggers appear when you're filling the trigger slot.
- Choose the trigger event the app offers.
- Select a connection (an account from Auth). Connect one from the step if you haven't yet.
- Finish any subscribe options the app asks for, then continue building the rest of the workflow.
If you pick an app that has no triggers, Whippy tells you to choose a different app or a built-in trigger such as Webhook, Email Parser, or Schedule.
Add an app as an action
App actions are searches (look something up) and creates (change something in the other product).
- On the canvas, add a step after your trigger (or after another action).
- Select the app from the catalog.
- Choose the action (search or create).
- Select the connection to run as.
- Fill the input fields. Map values from earlier steps where you can; dropdown fields that list remote records are filled by the app's search actions automatically.
- Save the step.
When the workflow runs, Whippy calls the app with your mapped inputs and the connection's credentials. Output fields from the step are available to map into later steps.
Keep connections healthy
If a step starts failing with auth errors:
- Go to Workflows → Auth → Connections.
- Test the connection.
- If the test fails, Reconnect, then re-run the workflow.
You can also reconnect from the App step's account controls in the builder when the connection shows it needs attention.
Version updates
When a newer published version of an app is available, the App step can show an update banner. Updating the step switches it to the newer version so you pick up new fields and fixes. Review mapped fields after updating — new required inputs may appear.
