Connect VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

Add the Whippy MCP server to GitHub Copilot agent mode in VS Code.

Add the server

Add Whippy to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace, or run MCP: Open User Configuration from the Command Palette to add it for every workspace:

{
  "servers": {
    "whippy": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.whippy.co/mcp"
    }
  }
}

You can also run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose HTTP, and enter https://api.whippy.co/mcp.

Sign in

Select Start above the whippy entry in mcp.json. VS Code asks to authenticate. Allow it, then sign in to Whippy in your browser, choose your workspace, and approve.

VS Code receives the result on http://127.0.0.1:33418/. If another program is using port 33418, VS Code picks a random port instead, and Whippy rejects the sign-in because that port wasn't registered. Close the program using the port and select Start again.

Use it

Open Copilot Chat, switch to Agent mode, and select the tools icon to confirm the Whippy tools are on.

Tool count

VS Code limits how many tools a chat request can use (128). Whippy has 256 tools, so turn off the ones you don't need in the tools picker, or use the compact endpoint described in Tool limits.

Remove

Delete the whippy entry from mcp.json, then disconnect VS Code in Whippy under Connected apps.
